The Intel 80186, also known as the iAPX 186, or just 186, is a microprocessor and microcontroller introduced in 1982. It was based on the Intel 8086 and, like it, had a 16-bit external data bus multiplexed with a 20-bit address bus. It was also available as the 80188, with an 8-bit external data bus.

It used the x86-16 instruction set, and had a CPU clock rate of 6 MHz to 25 MHz.

How to tell an 8086/8088 from an 80186?

I am trying to write a program to check what processor is used to execute my program. Since this is intended to be used on a number of historic PC-clones, I want to be able to tell an 8086 from an 80186 just in case the computer is one of the rareā€¦
